In Pictures: Torrential rain slams Europe

Torrential rain has caused major problems in Europe.

Heavy rain has plagued central Europe over the past few days.

Germany and Poland have been worst hit, with the excessive rainfall causing flooding and mudslides.

The rain has been heavy across Germany, Poland, Austria, the UK and the Netherlands.

In Wroclaw, western Poland, some roads have become impassable.

In eastern Germany, the heavy downpours caused the land to become saturated and unstable.

This triggered a mudslide in Meissen, eastern Germany.

In some parts of the city roads were destroyed and elsewhere they were littered with debris.

In southeast Norway, the rain combined with melting snow, causing the River Trysilelva to overflow. Roads were only passable by canoe.
